Located just minutes from Winchester Trails is Diamond Valley Lake. Diamond Valley Lake, often referred to as the jewel of California Lakes is Southern California’s largest freshwater reservoir with 4,500 surface acres. Diamond Valley Lake holds 260 billion gallons of water and took nearly two and a half years to fill. In addition to providing water to eighteen million Southern Californian’s Diamond Valley Lake can meet the area’s emergency and drought needs for six months. This beautiful reservoir is the site of a planned recreation Mecca that will draw thousands of people to the area for boating, sailing, shore and boat fishing, water fowl hunting, camping and host of proposed recreation amenities. The Diamond Valley Aquatic Center is now open and offers entertainment for the entire family including pool houses, a water gym and waterslide. Diamond Valley Lake is embarking on a substantial trail system that will allow visitors to hike and ride through the hills surrounding the reservoir. The six mile North Hills Trail is open for horseback riding and hiking and the Lakeview Trail is now open for hiking and biking. Boating is allowed on the lake; and both fishing boats, bass boats and pontoon’s are available for rental. Diamond Valley Lake is the state’s newest fishing lake featuring extensive fish habitats, regular trout and catfish plants, and some of the most unique and challenging largemouth bass fishing in the West. Coastline and boat fishing are featured at Diamond Valley Lake with some exciting tournaments being held.
If one desires additional shopping, the Temecula Valley is located less than thirty minutes away. In Temecula you can enjoy a glass of wine at one of the twenty award winning wineries, shop for antiques in Old town Temecula, visit one of the three casinos or enjoy a balloon flight over this scenic valley.
Local and Regional Parks
Winchester trails offers its residents a five acre community park and in addition its in close proximity to many of Hemet's eight parks that offer basketball courts, ball fields, playgrounds, turf areas, children's play areas, lighted tennis courts, horseshoe pits, lawn bowling greens, shuffleboard courts and picnic areas. The Valley-Wide Recreation & Park District which will maintain the Winchester Trails park; maintains facilities in Hemet, Winchester, French Valley, Valley Vista with the most impressive being the Regional Park in San Jacinto, which includes a 22,000-acre sports center, six soccer fields and seven baseball diamonds (some lighted), batting cages, lighted tennis courts, outdoor basketball and volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, and picnic areas with barbecues and children's play equipment.
Education and Community Resources
The Winchester Trails real estate development is located in the Hemet Unified School District, which strives for "ongoing and continuous improvement" at all grade levels. Many students go on to nearby Mt. San Jacinto College, a two-year institution with a wide variety of certificate and degree programs. Mt. San Jacinto College has both a San Jacinto and Menifee campus and residents of Winchester Trails will find themselves situated within easy driving distance of both campuses. Several other colleges are within easy reach of Hemet, including College of the Desert in Palm Desert, Crafton Hills College in Yucaipa and the University of California at Riverside.
